GENERAL DESCRIPTION
With minimal but intricate forms, Things the wet nurse told me has the tranquility of a Chinese landscape painting. A snowy path interrupts patches of green that resemble a weeping willow. Despite the two forms appearing distinct and unrelated, there is an overall harmony to the work. Jackie Tileston has said that she is interested in creating paintings where different places and qualities - beautiful, absurd, sacred - can coexist. Her desire to create "visual democracies" is likely influenced by her multinational upbringing. Tileston was born in the Philippines to an American father and a mother from Shanghai, and lived in India, England, France, and the U.S.
