1980.13 Avison, Oak Bluff

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
David Avison’s panoramic view of Martha’s Vineyard is an expansion of fellow photographer Garry Winogrand’s approach to street photography [See 1975.88]. Avison studied briefly with Winogrand and went on to invent his own camera that exposed three frames in a single shot. The resulting panoramas show multiple people, disconnected in their groupings and activities, but unified by having shared the same landscape.
