1991.412.56, Chop plate, Manufacturer: Josiah Wedgwood Factory, 1889, earthenware

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Underglaze blue-printed botanical designs like the ones seen on this chop plate were popular with the American consumer in the last decade of the 19th century due to the never-ending appeal of Chinese ceramics. Even mistakes such as the frequent bleeding of color into the ground, known popularly as "flow blue," were absorbed by the American market.
