1990.192, Wine cooler, Josiah Wedgwood Factory, c. 1775, creamware, glaze, enamel

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Although Josiah Wedgwood is now remembered for his elaborate exhibition wares, the bulk of his production was actually in high-quality creamwares like this wine cooler. Potted in the shape of a wooden pail, this cooler is decorated with brown enameled lines which simulate the iron bands which would surround a wooden pail. The crest painted on the cooler's side is that of one "Oliver Esquire."

Adapted from
Charles Venable, DMA unpublished material, 1990.
