GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Fort Worth-born photographer Laura Wilson wrote: "The Hutterites do not allow photography; I had to make four trips to their colonies without taking a picture….When I started to photograph, I did so to affirm their values of family and spiritual life. I was drawn to them by their dignity and their strong connection with the land. In an America that has been industrialized, bulldozed, and urbanized out of direct contact with the earth, the Hutterites know what to love."
This powerful image of members of an isolated religious community on the Montana prairies is part of a series Wilson produced in the 1990s and ultimately published in 2000.
