GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Matt Connor's works have been described as paintings about painting. They employ aspects of Abstract Expressionism, but reveal much more to the viewer. In Soul Error, the primary colors, barely concealed pencil marks, and patches of visible canvas suggest that the work is an exaltation of the fundamental principles of painting. There is a deliberateness about the uneven application of paint that underscores its materiality. Although Connors's paintings reference art history, there is an intentional transparency between object and audience that encourages engagement from any viewer.
