GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Dutch and Flemish still-life painting reached a high point in the 17th century, and influenced designers of marquetry panels for case and seat furniture, mirror and picture frames in England and France, as well as at home. In this frame the ebonized outer borders contrast with the finely executed inner border consisting of green tinted ivory, mother-of-pearl, and dark and light-shaded wood marquetry in uninterrupted flower designs which include two perched birds.
Excerpt from
Dallas Museum of Art, The Wendy and Emery Reves Collection (Dallas, Texas: Dallas Museum of Art, 1985), 171.
