GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Wednesday Afternoon is an investigation of quiet afternoons spent wandering through museums "looking at people and things." Filmed at the Victoria and Albert and the British Museum in London, still shots of galleries and close-ups of the faces in paintings and sculptures capture the unchanging nature of the art, occasionally disrupted by the appearance of idle visitors. An anonymous narrator offers dry, sometimes witty, philosophical musings on the purpose of museums and how visitors, objects, and space affect one another. Ultimately, the narrator admits to the futility of intellectualizing the museum-going experience, deciding that museums are best admired as spaces for chance encounters and reverie.
