John Pratt (1753-1824)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Captain John Pratt was a Hartford native, the son of Zachariah and Abigail (Cook) Pratt. During the American Revolutionary War, he served as assistant commissary general under James Clinton, and continued to pursue a military career after the end of the war. He fought in the Ohio Indian Wars in Ohio (also known as the Northwest Indian War).  In 1791, President George Washington appointed him a captain of the First Regiment of the United States Army. In this role, Pratt was ordered by General Henry Knox to head the Army recruiting service in the state of Connecticut, with "the principle rendezvous...at Middletown."

Due to his new assignment, Pratt settled in Middletown in 1792 where he purchased a farm. He married Elizabeth Cooper of Middletown in 1795 and served as a magistrate and a representative in the State Legislature. Pratt was also an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati, organized in 1783, prior to the disbanding of the Revolutionary armies. He commissioned Ralph Earl to paint his portrait in 1792.

NOTES
Removed TMS tags for 1990.146.1 and 1990.146.2

Added this constituent as "depicted individual" in TMS.
Added his life dates and known locations.
Used TMS to see that his constituent ID is 107786. Not sure if Brain is harvesting all constituents.

This note has not been pushed to Google Drive so I am removing the status tags and replacing them with draft and routed. When the note is updated in GDrive and the UMO is resolved, it can be tagged complete. 1/28/2017

Removed the suggested illustration and UMO for the portrait of Pratt. Based on the progress of attaching images to CC notes, I may need to use a tag indicating this note whould be illustrated with the portrait- in a way that the primary image for the object is also used as the illustration for this note. If I use the UMO to link it with a specific image, the object photography between the CC and object page may not match.

Other than the pending UMOs for the Pratt letters, all revisions are complete and I am removing the routed tag and replacing with the completed tag. I am leaving the %UMO pending tag in place. The GDoc has been moved to Queta's folders for review. (3/2/2017)

NEED TO ADD THE UMO TAGS FOR ALL PAPERS RELATED TO PRATT.
As of November 16, 2016 (see email from Hillary), these papers are in queue to be photographed and then uploaded to Piction. Hillary will send UMOs when they are loaded.
